White Russian – The Fashiongton Post

The White Russian cocktail originated in the mid-20th century and is a variation of the Black Russian, which was created in Brussels in 1949 by bartender Gustave Tops. The original Black Russian combined vodka and coffee liqueur, while the White Russian added cream to soften and enrich the drink. It gained mainstream popularity in the 1990s due to its iconic appearance in the cult film The Big Lebowski, where it became the signature drink of the main character, “The Dude.” Despite its name, the White Russian has no direct ties to Russia—its name simply refers to vodka as the primary spirit.
