Top 10 Countries with the highest H-1B visa holders in FY24: President Donald Trump’s announcement of a one-time fee of $100,000 for H-1B visas has raised concerns among US employers and foreign workers, particularly affecting certain countries and sectors.
Unsurprisingly, the H-1B programme has predominantly benefited individuals from India, who represent the largest group of recipients.
Data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) indicates that Indian nationals have constituted over 70 per cent of all approved H-1B petitions for the fiscal year, which concluded on September 30, 2024.
The US approved a total of 399,395 H-1B petitions during the year, with India receiving the vast majority at 283,397.
China ranks a distant second, with 46,680 H-1B approvals in FY 2024, amounting to 11.7 per cent of the total.
As far as continued employment is concerned, India and China together account for 89 per cent of the beneficiaries under the programme, in contrast to 71 per cent of initial employment, the report further highlighted.
In comparison, individuals from countries such as the Philippines, Pakistan, Canada, and South Korea make up approximately 1 per cent or less of the total H-1B approvals for FY 2024.
