Uttar Pradesh’s Food Safety and Drug Administration has issued urgent statewide guidelines asking district drug inspectors to seize and test cough syrups after reports from other states linked child deaths to contaminated medicines.
The Commissioner has warned that adulteration with diethylene glycol, a toxic industrial solvent, can be fatal and ordered immediate preventive action against products manufactured by M/s Sesan (also cited as M/s Sresan) Pharmaceutical. The direction cites a letter from State Licensing Authority of MP dated October 4, 2025, which reportedly found diethylene glycol contamination in COLDRIF SYRUP produced by Sresan Pharmaceutical, Kangeyam Highway, Sunguvachathram (Mathura), district Kancheepuram.
