TMC leader’s murder: One arrested with 9mm pistol | Kolkata News


Eight days after the murder of Amar Roy, a TMC leader and son of a Trinamool Panchayat Pradhan, the Cooch Behar police arrested a youth from the border with Assam on Sunday.

The arrested person identified as Binay Roy has been taken into custody and is being interrogated, police said confirming that Binay had been living in Siliguri for the past nine years.

A 9mm pistol and four rounds of ammunition were recovered from Roy’s possession, believed to be used in the incident.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Krishnagopal Meena, stated that Binay has a criminal history with previous cases of theft, robbery, and POCSO registered against him. The recovered firearm is also illegal.

Police sources said the arrested youth, who is a resident of the Siddheshwari area in Cooch Behar-2 block, had a long-standing personal dispute with the victim, which is believed to be the motive behind the murder.

According to police, the incident occurred on August 9 when Amar Roy and four friends went to Dodair Hat to purchase meat. Amar was hit by four bullets and he succumbed to his injuries.
