Mars in Leo opposes Pluto in Aquarius this weekend. We’ve experienced this aspect already back in January, 2025. You might be drawn back into a passion or problem that you experienced at that time. That concentrated Mars/Pluto energy can bring about intense fire and conflict. This opposition brings power dynamics to the forefront and calls us to consciously explore them so they don’t take over our experiences.

Hi There and welcome to another episode of the Kelly’s Astrology podcast.

Ok so back to Mars opposite Pluto. Let’s cover off the degrees and details then we’ll dive into the themes.
Mars will be at 3 Leo and will oppose Pluto 3 Aquarius. This aspect will peak on Saturday the 26th if you’re in Canada and the US or Sunday the 27th if you’re in the UK, Australia or Europe.
This is the second Mars opposite Pluto aspect across Leo and Aquarius – the first was back in early January, when Mars was retrograde in early Leo opposing Pluto in early Aquarius. This means you might find yourself drawn back into a passion or problem from early January too, as similar parts of the Zodiac will be activated this weekend the way they were then.
Since Mars moves a little slowly, this aspect is kind of drawn out and even though I’ve shared the dates where the aspect peaks and is exact, you might feel it for a few days, Friday – Sunday.
So what is Mars opposite Pluto about? Many deep, complex and intense things!
Mars represents anger, passion, courage and the willingness to fight.
Pluto is about power, wealth and often control, as well as depth, intensity and things like obsession or compulsion.
An opposition indicates some tension or differences – in an opposition, two planets are as far apart as they can be, so there might be distance as well as differences that surface now.
Pulling some of these themes together you might get a sense that Mars opposite Pluto can about intense passions, as well as passionate disagreements. There’s a quality of power or control you might be swept up in – or pushing back on.
An obsession might consume you such that you are deep into researching, exploring, investigating.
Whenever Pluto is in the mix you’ll want to figure things out at a deeper level – you might be pushing for answers, determined to solve a problem or at the very least push past it through sheer force of will.
Mars/Pluto combinations can activate intense concentration and effort, like being so set on something you can move mountains with your actions and focus.
Navigating tension and working through differing priorities will likely be part of this Mars opposite Pluto aspect. And it’s likely power dynamics might need to be examined too – you might want to understand the origins of a dynamic you’re becoming aware of, or you might be surprised by a controlling experience you didn’t expect.
Given that Mars and Pluto will oppose each other across two fixed signs, Leo and Aquarius, there is a lot of stubborn and determined energy here, so being patient and persistent will likely be necessary.
Another idea worth keeping in mind about this Mars opposite Pluto aspect is that it’s only the second in a series of Mars oppositions to Pluto in Aquarius, which is a pattern that will repeat every couple of years for the next two decades or so.
So there’s a clue there that you might be starting to get fired up about something that’s newer to you. You might find yourself in new kinds of power dynamics, or notice you’re starting to have different kinds of disagreements with those around you.
This is like tuning into new passion and new battles for the new era.
Pluto in Aquarius – a longer trend that began in 2024 and will continue until 2044 – will shift power and alliances, both personally and collectively. As this begins to happen, the things you want to stand for and against will also change. What you’re passionate about will shift and what annoys or angers you will also evolve.
While this aspect isn’t always fun, it can help you connect with undercurrents you weren’t aware of, so that you can make choices about what to do and what to fight for with more conscious awareness.
Any major aspect like this with Pluto in Aquarius will definitely bring up new dynamics for the new era, and with Mars in the mix, it’s time to attune to new passions and needs, to find new ways to express anger and to assert yourself about the emerging wants you’re becoming increasingly aware of.
I was rereading parts of When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron this morning and was reminded of the Buddhist concept of refraining. Chodron talks about how through refraining, we avoid habitually acting out impulsively. She talks about how the practice of refraining can help with noticing restlessness or fear. And that instead of instantly grabbing for entertainment or escape the minute we sense discomfort – we have much to gain by refraining from that impulse and instead being with the fear or restlessness.
Chodron talks about how refraining can be a way of being in the pause, the space between ick and escape, between anger and reaction. And how learning to be in this space can help minimise compulsiveness.
Since a potent Mars opposite Pluto aspect can highlight compulsive, or unconscious tendencies, you might find this concept of refraining to be a helpful strategy this weekend. If you notice yourself reaching for something out of habit or to avoid an uncomfortable feeling, could you instead stay with what’s annoying or unsettling you? If so, you might find your way to a deeper sense of personal power as you learn new ways to be still with yourself rather than always in that active, distracting, doing, competing place.
I promised I’d talk briefly about the New Moon in Taurus – this arrives on the 27th and is one of those lovely New Moons that offers a sweet chance to re-set.
The New Moon arrives shortly after the exact Mars opposite Pluto aspect so can help wash the slate clean. The New Moon is ruled by Venus in Pisces, who is just separating from Saturn, so on a couple of levels this New Moon might bring a chance to leave a complex or heavy situation in the past. If you can’t fully let go, it’s certainly a clue that you’ll find it easier to bear a burden or find new joy moving forward.
Thanks so much for joining me!
I look forward to catching you next time, take care
