Tiruvannamalai police constables Sundar and Sureshraj, accused of gang-raping an 18-year-old woman during a night patrol, have been dismissed from service. The incident took place when the woman, traveling from Andhra Pradesh, was stopped for a vehicle check and assaulted.
They were arrested soon after, and District SP Sudhakar issued their dismissal orders. Tamil Nadu Women’s Commission chairperson A. S. Kumari interacted with the survivor, assuring compensation within ten days and counselling support. She also stressed that the trial will be expedited, with a verdict expected within six months.
Kumari further directed monthly awareness sessions for police personnel to prevent such crimes in future.
