Queen Mary of Denmark had to be quickly escorted indoors after she was seen wincing in pain while greeting well-wishers in Gråsten, alongside King Frederik and two of their children.
The 53-year-old monarch was collecting bouquets from admirers outside Gråsten Town Hall when she suddenly grasped her left thigh in visible discomfort.
It was soon revealed that the Australian royal had been stung by a wasp. Despite the painful encounter, Mary maintained her composure throughout the incident.
Officials quickly escorted her to a nearby building for medical assessment. She was examined at Det Gamle Radhus hotel, where she received routine treatment.

The brief intervention lasted just minutes before she rejoined the royal party, as reported by the New York Post.
The unexpected interruption occurred during the family’s arrival at their summer residence in Southern Denmark, where they were being welcomed by local dignitaries and crowds of supporters.
Princess Isabella and Prince Vincent seamlessly continued meeting the assembled crowds with their father, whilst their mother received care.
Danish publication Billed Bladet reported: “The queen certainly did not seem to be badly affected by the encounter with the stinging wasp, and she, together with the King, Isabella and Vincent, made sure to greet the many citizens who had gathered in the square.”

Social media users showered the Queen with admiration for her dignified handling of the painful incident.
One Instagram user, who shared footage of the moment, commented: “Sadly Queen Mary was stung by a wasp (she dealt with it like the champion she is). I wish her a speedy recovery.”

The Danish royals traditionally spend their summer holidays at Gråsten Palace, mirroring the British monarchy’s annual retreats to Balmoral Castle in Scotland, currently being enjoyed by King Charles.
The family will remain at the palatial residence for several weeks during their summer break.
King Frederik inherited the grand estate from his grandfather, Frederik IX, who received the property as a wedding gift when he married Ingrid of Sweden in 1935.

The Palace has since become a cherished summer retreat for the Danish Royal Family.
Ahead of their move into Gråsten Palace, King Frederik gave an address to gathered members of the Danish public.
He revealed that he and Mary’s eldest son, 19-year-old Crown Prince Christian, would be arriving later at the summer retreat.
The King added that Princess Josephine, Vincent’s twin sister, would subsequently join the family at Gråsten Palace.
