Queen Camilla was installed as an Honorary Freeman and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers at Stationers’ Hall today.

The ceremony recognised her dedication to promoting literacy across the nation.

King Charles has been a member of the Company since 1983, when he joined as the Prince of Wales.

The Queen received the honour at the historic venue in the City of London, becoming the latest member of the centuries-old livery company.

Queen Camilla was installed as an Honorary Freeman and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers at Stationers’ Hall today.

Her installation marked a significant moment for the organisation, which has represented the book trade, printers, publishers and communications industries for more than 600 years.

The ceremony included traditional elements befitting the Company’s long-standing customs and heritage.

Upon arrival, the Queen was received by the Lord Mayor of the City of London and the Master of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers. The formal installation ceremony followed established traditions.

During the proceedings, Her Majesty was clothed in the ceremonial gown of the livery. She then made a formal declaration to the Company, completing the essential elements of her installation as an Honorary Freeman and Liveryman.

The ceremony maintained the protocols that have been observed for centuries at Stationers’ Hall, the second oldest Livery Hall in the City of London after the Apothecaries’ Hall.

Following the installation, the Queen met representatives from the Stationers’ charities and military affiliations. These organisations focus on education and rehabilitation through bookbinding programmes.

The Queen also engaged with representatives from the Stationers’ Foundation, which supports education and welfare initiatives.

The Foundation manages the “Shine School Media Awards” for secondary schools that produce pupil-led publications.

Her Majesty spent time with members of the Company, joining them for a group photograph. She viewed various exhibits before departing Stationers’ Hall.

The engagement highlighted the Company’s ongoing commitment to supporting educational initiatives and the communications industry through its charitable work.

The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers was formed in 1403 through the union of three trades: the Scriveners, who wrote with quill and ink, the Lymners, who created colourful document enhancements, and Book Binders. Queen Mary Tudor incorporated the Company by Royal Charter in 1557.

Today, the Company has approximately 1,000 members, with 90 per cent drawn from the trades. Members include those working in the book trade, printing, publishing, paper making, calligraphy, bookbinding and the broader communications and content industries.
