Prince William celebrates with Lionesses on the pitch after nail-biting victory

Prince William celebrated with the Lionesses after their triumph over Spain in what proved to be a tense Euros final.

The Prince of Wales was in Switzerland alongside Princess Charlotte to cheer on England’s women as they retained their European title in dramatic fashion.

Following a nail biting victory on penalties, William was on the pitch to congratulate the England players and commiserate the vanquished Spaniards.

He shared a sweet moment with England star Michelle Agyemang, embracing and her as she was handed the competition’s Young Player of the Tournament award.

The Prince of Wales was part of the official party shaking hands and awarding medals to the players.

Princess Charlotte watched on from elsewhere as she joined her father for a royal first with her attendance at Sunday’s final.

Prince George is usually seen by his father’s side at footballing events, previously joining William as they spectated their beloved club Aston Villa’s bittersweet Champion’s League campaign earlier this year.

This time, however, Charlotte led the next generations of the Royal Family at the St Jakob-Park stadium in Switzerland.

She and William witnessed Spain open the scoring during the match with a strike from Mariona Caldentey in the 25th minute.

The Lionesses came out for the second half still 1-0 down but came roaring back with a header from Alessia Russo, assisted by Chloe Kelly, in the 57th minute.

The nail-biting game remained deadlocked for the remainder of the second half and through extra time leading a dreaded penalty shootout.

Beth Mead, who was up first to take a shot, was dramatically forced to retake her shot which was then saved.
