Felix Kjellberg, popularly known as PewDiePie on the Internet, has been one of YouTube’s most-talked-about and most-subscribed creators. However, after 12 years, PewDiePie has now slipped from his position, and a South Korean creator has raced ahead.
PewDiePie now trails behind fast-growing channels like kimpro828, a South Korean Shorts creator whose viral, bite-sized videos have fuelled an impressive rise in subscriber count, Dexerto reported. Kimpro828, now sitting at #10, recently surpassed PewDiePie. While the star creator once dominated the platform with daily uploads, meme-heavy content, and massive community engagement, his absence from the Shorts ecosystem has left him outpaced in today’s algorithm-driven race.
According to the report, PewDiePie has been semi-retired for some time. After relocating to Japan in 2022, he reduced his output to focus on his personal life. Explaining his decision to step back from uploading videos daily, he told fans, “I just wanna do YouTube the way I did it when I started, which is for fun… So instead, I try to just focus on what’s fun about YouTube.”
Now a father, PewDiePie has not uploaded a single YouTube short.
The Swedish YouTuber got married to his longtime girlfriend, Marzia Bisognin, in London’s Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in 2019. PewDiePie proposed to Marzia in April 2018 during a trip to Japan.
The couple first met in 2011 and spent time living in Sweden, Italy, and Los Angeles. In 2023, the couple welcomed their first child. They revealed the name of their newborn son with an adorable post on Instagram. “11/07/2023 Welcome to the family, little Bjorn,” the caption read.
Meanwhile, MrBeast continues to dominate the platform with a staggering 408 million subscribers, over 100 million more than T-Series, the channel he and PewDiePie once famously competed against in the battle for YouTube supremacy.
