As the MVA and MNS came together to raise their objections with the State Election Commission (SEC) on the electoral rolls for the forthcoming civic polls, Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis on Wednesday termed the opposition parties’ as a “fiasco”.
“I learnt that an appeal has been made to us to join the opposition on the demand for correcting the electoral rolls and remove the mistakes. We are ready for it,” Fadnavis said.
“Elections should be fair. We will give complete support for making corrections in electoral rolls. We have no opposition to it,” he added. “In the electoral rolls there are several duplicate names and they have existed for the last 20 years and the BJP has objected to it several times,” the CM said.
Fadnavis said the opposition is raising some or the other issue in the election process. “The same issue on electoral rolls was there even when the opposition parties were in power. It was nothing different,” he said.
“I think one should accept defeat and then again go to the people and contest future elections. But, the opposition does not have faith in the Constitution and the institutions formed by the Constitution. They are only creating a narrative and their rounds to the election office for two days is a fiasco,” Fadnavis said.
The opposition had first gone to the Chief Electoral Officer who only prepares electoral rolls for state legislative assemblies but the local body elections are conducted by the state election office, he said, adding that the opposition realised their mistake on Tuesday, so on Wednesday they met the state election commission and Chief Electoral Officer.
In Mumbai, the opposition alleged that they suspect there was someone else other than the election commission preparing the electoral rolls and make changes by including names and deleting names.
