Month-long urs of Ullal dargah to begin on April 24

The urs of Seyyid Muhammad Shareeful Madani Dargah in Ullal will be held between April 24 and May 18.

According to the president of the dargah Haneef Haji, the urs will be held under the leadership of Ullal Qazi Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar.

As part of the urs, there will be discourses every day. Among the scholars who will give discourse include Kuntambara Abdul Rahiman Darimi, Abdul Rasheed Zaini, Abdul Wasih Bakhavi, Moyyaddin Kamil Sakhafi, Hussain Sakhafi, and Abdul Aziz Daraimi. About 70,000 devotees are expected to attend the urs every day. Lakhs of people from across the country are expected to take part in the 25-day event, he said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation stone for constructing Seyyid Madani Grand Masjid on May 16. The present masjid is 75 years old and there is shortage of space for holding prayers. The new masjid can accommodate 10,000 people. It will be constructed at a cost of ₹25 crore and the construction will take about three years to complete he said.

In light of likely traffic congestion during the period, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal has issued advisory asking motorists to avoid using Pumpwell-Ullal Netravathi Bridge–Thokkottu- Ullal stretch on the National Highway 66 and also the Thokkottu junction-Ullal Main Road-Masthikatte-Rani Abbakka Circle-Someshwara Road stretch.

Vehicles coming from B.C. Road, Bantwal, Belthangady and Puttur to the urs and to Kasaragod can use the Melkar junction-Boliyar-Mudipu-Konaje-Thokkottu route. Vehicles coming from Farangipet, Thumbay and Adyar to the urs can come on the Adyar Katte (Bonda Factory) Road-Harekala Bridge- Gramachavadi-New Padpu–Thokkottu/Ullal route, he said.

Because of the ongoing repair works on the old Netravathi bridge, there will be slow movement of traffic and hence Mr. Agrawal advised motorists to ply with caution on the new Netravathi bridge. Those participating in the urs should park their vehicles in designated parking areas. Motorists should not park vehicles on both sides of the Ullal Main Road and from Abbakka Circle to the dargah, Mr. Agrawal stated.
