 Mirai – Review

Spectacular show
Mirai, directed by Karthik Gattamneni, is an ambitious mythological superhero saga that dares to merge ancient lore with modern cinematic spectacle. With a gripping storyline, breathtaking visuals, and strong performances, the film stands out as a refreshing take on the genre, offering audiences a mix of grandeur, emotion, and action-packed drama.
The story follows Vedha (Teja Sajja), a young man tasked with safeguarding the ninth book of Emperor Ashoka, said to hold the secret of immortality. His journey of transformation is as much about courage and destiny as it is about the inner conflict of good versus evil. Standing against him is Mahabir Lama (Manchu Manoj), a powerful antagonist shaped by pain, social rejection, and caste-based prejudice. Lama’s character is written with emotional depth, moving beyond the boundaries of a conventional villain. His presence elevates the film, making the conflict feel both personal and larger-than-life.
Visually, the film is a delight. From the awe-inspiring Sampati bird sequence to the intense train fight, every frame reflects Gattamneni’s mastery as a cinematographer. The mythic world comes alive with rich textures, detailed set pieces, and Gowra Hari’s evocative score, which adds weight to every emotional beat. Teja Sajja shoulders his role well, showing Vedha’s evolution with conviction.
But it is Manchu Manoj who steals the spotlight with a career-defining performance. His portrayal of Mahabir Lama is both fierce and vulnerable — a man whose pain fuels his destructive path. Manoj’s physical transformation, commanding screen presence, and nuanced emotional range make Lama a villain audiences will both fear and empathize with.
The supporting cast, including Jagapathi Babu, Jayaram, Shriya Saran, and Ritika Nayak, further ground the story with layered performances. Though a few comedic touches disrupt the pacing at times, the emotional high points and grand visuals more than compensate.
In conclusion, Mirai is a bold and visually spectacular film that redefines the mythological superhero genre in Indian cinema.
