Michael Fabricant, 74, hit with ‘loudest boos ever’ upon ITV CBB debut as he addresses ‘wig’ speculation upon entrance

Sir Michael Fabricant faced what viewers described as the “loudest arrival boos ever” as he entered the Celebrity Big Brother house last night.

The former Conservative MP, who served as the Member of Parliament for Lichfield until his defeat in 2024, was met with a hostile reception from the live audience during Monday’s launch show.

The 74-year-old politician appeared unfazed by the negative reaction as he made his way over to hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best on the entrance bridge.

Fans watching at home were shocked by the audience response, with one tweeting: “The biggest boos I’ve ever heard for an entrance!”

Another viewer commented: “That’s not a good start to Michael’s CBB journey!”

Despite the boos, Fabricant quickly turned to humour during his introduction to the show, particularly about his famous blonde locks.

The controversial politician wasted no time in addressing his appearance after years of speculation about his hair.

He was particularly booed during moments when he mentioned his hair and when he gave a shout out to his fellow conservatives on live television.

In his introductory video, Fabricant finally addressed the long-standing speculation about his distinctive blonde mop, appearing to admit what many had suspected for years.

“People wonder if my hair is my own,” he quipped. “Well, it is my own. I can show you the receipts! It cost a fortune!”

This candid admission marks a significant shift from his previous stance, where he had consistently denied wearing a wig despite persistent rumours circulated by both the public and fellow politicians.

In a 2014 interview with the Mirror, Fabricant had admitted that “there is some – but only some – enhancement of the follicular area”.

In 2019, he was forced to defend himself when fellow Tory MP Huw Merriman was allegedly caught on camera pointing to his hair during Prime Minister’s Question Time.

The former MP’s hair has been widely ridiculed throughout his political career, with many questioning its authenticity.

Speaking before going into the famous house, Fabricant revealed why he wanted to be a CBB housemate, saying: “Meeting interesting people and having good conversations.

“Having some fun and to find out what it’s like being trapped with people I don’t know!”

When asked how he would get on with the other celebrities, he replied: “It’s difficult to say.

“If they’re bright, amusing, interesting it’ll be great. I’m a light sleeper so if they have some funny nighttime habits, that could be a problem.

“So no snorers, please. I think boredom is my biggest fear – not having enough stimulation.”

Chesney Hawkes was the first celebrity to enter the house, immediately given a challenge by Big Brother to introduce himself as “the one and only Chesney Hawkes” to the first four housemates.

JoJo Siwa followed while other stars joining the house included TV host Trisha Goddard, Love Island star Chris Hughes, and EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer.

Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd entered with low expectations, saying: “I almost guarantee I’ll be up for eviction the first week!”

The first live eviction will take place this Friday, just days after the celebrities settled into their new temporary home.
