Meghan Markle’s former best friend Jessica Mulroney splits from husband Ben after 16 years

Jessica Mulroney, formerly close to Meghan Markle, is understood to have separated from her husband Ben after 16 years of marriage.

The Canadian stylist, 45, is no longer wearing her wedding ring and told friends about the split during a lavish Toronto wedding last month, sources have claimed.

The wedding where Jessica broke the news was attended by A-listers, including Drake and LeBron James.

The Mulroneys, who share three children, daughter Ivy, 12, and twin sons Brian and John, 14, were once at the top of Toronto’s social scene.

However, Jessica’s reputation suffered following a 2020 controversy linked to the Black Lives Matter movement.

A Canadian source told Page Six: “They’re split… Jessica seemed sad, but also relieved to have some clarity.” Another insider added they had “separated some time ago.” GB News has contacted the Mulroneys for comment.

Jessica’s last known public mention of Ben came in March 2024 when she joked on Instagram that they both forgot their anniversary.

Their marriage was once one of the most high-profile in Canada. Ben, a former TV presenter, is the son of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, who died in February 2024. The couple rose to even greater prominence in 2016, when Jessica’s close friend Meghan began dating Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle and Jessica Mulroney have appeared to become distant in recent years

Jessica helped Meghan keep the early relationship under wraps and even styled her for her 2017 engagement photos. Her children had prominent roles in the Sussexes’ 2018 royal wedding.

However, things began to unravel when Canadian influencer Sasha Exeter accused Jessica of racism in 2020. Exeter said Jessica “took offence” at a generic social media post urging influencers to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

She claimed Jessica responded with “a series of very problematic behaviour and antics that ultimately resulted in [Mulroney] sending me a threat in writing.”

In her apology, Jessica referenced her friendship with Meghan: “As I told you privately, I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre. It was deeply educational. I learned a lot from that. I promise to continue to learn and listen on how I can use my privilege to elevate and support black voices.”

Jessica and Meghan appeared to grow distant in the aftermath. Around the same time, she also lost her job as a fashion contributor on Good Morning America.

In addition, her reality show I Do, Redo was cancelled by Canadian network CTV, and she stepped down from her charity roles. According to a source who spoke to the same publication, Jessica was “upset that she couldn’t get a job” after her friendship with Meghan faded.

Jessica addressed the situation publicly in November 2020, telling Page Six: “I still feel a lot of shame. I feel that people believe the worst in me.”

In November 2021, Jessica posted an optimistic message to Instagram: “There is hope… I’ve found it through sobriety and therapy. My life is happy again. I wish this for you all.”
