Meghan Markle has revealed how attempting to dye her own hair during the pandemic left her with an “inky, Elvira-esque” appearance.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared the beauty mishap that occurred shortly after moving to California in 2020 on the latest episode of her “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast.
During her conversation with hair colourist Kadi Lee on episode three of her podcast, Meghan admitted: “Because it was the pandemic, I kept ordering boxed hair dye. And I thought, ‘I’m gonna look just like she does on the box.'”
The reality proved quite different, with Meghan describing the resulting colour as “this very inky, almost Elvira-esque black hair.”

The duchess explained how she reached out to her wedding hairstylist, Serge Normant, for help with the hair disaster.
Normant, who had styled Meghan’s hair for her 2018 royal wedding, immediately recommended Lee, who visited the duchess’s home.
Meghan recalled: “We were masked and all the things. It was such an interesting time, but I remember that day so well.”
The emergency hair appointment sparked a lasting friendship, with the duchess revealing her children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, now have a special bond with the hair expert.

Meghan shared: “Our kids love Auntie Kadi. It’s my favourite when they run out to your car. It’s like, ‘Kadi!'”
During the podcast, the duchess also opened up about her earlier hair struggles as a biracial woman at university.
The duchess shared: “When I was at Northwestern, and I moved into Kappa — our sorority there — I don’t even think they made plug-in flat irons at the time.”
Meghan described using a stove-heated flat iron with a paper towel on the side, leading to concerned reactions from her fellow students.

“And it was just what you would do to figure out how to grapple with this texture of hair.”
The fourth episode of Confessions of a Female Founder will be released next week on April 29.
