Former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar, recently took to X to take a light swipe at Virat Kohli after Suryakumar Yadav overtook the ace batter’s run tally during the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League in Mumbai Indians’ game against Rajasthan Royals. Suryakumar’s 48* (23) pushed his tally to 475 runs in 11 innings, as compared to Kohli’s 443 in 10 innings.
The renowned commentator uploaded a tweet in which he expressed that the Orange Cap was looking “extra bright” on Suryakumar. Not only that, he also mentioned his strike rate of 172.72, subtly hinting at Kohli’s significantly lower strike rate (138.87). His particular remark has stirred up the internet, with many holding Manjrekar accountable for spreading unnecessary cynicism.

Recently, Manjrekar had posted on X about a “batters that matter” list in which he had included all the batters possessing a strike rate of 153 and above at that point of the season. Kohli, despite being amongst the top run-getters of IPL 2025, was nowhere to be found on the list.
Suryakumar’s blitzkrieg against RR was one of the main reasons for MI to post 217 on the board. The joint-most successful franchise went on to register a 100-run victory in Jaipur. The vice-captain of MI has been in top form this season and is anticipated to fire in the business end of the tournament too.
RCB will take on Chennai Super Kings next. The clash at the Chinnaswamy presents a wonderful opportunity for the former RCB skipper to rise in the standings and overtake Suryakumar’s count. The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at 7:30 pm (IST).
