The Delhi Police Saturday arrested a 39-year-old man who allegedly raped his 72-year-old mother twice as he wanted to “punish” her for an affair he suspected her of having when he was a child, an officer said.
“The accused is a graduate who is currently unemployed, and an investigation is on,” said Nidhin Valsan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).
According to the police, the complainant woman lives with her husband, a retired government employee, her son and daughter in Central Delhi. The woman went to Saudi Arabia for a pilgrimage with her husband and daughter. While there, her son called up his father and said that he needs to divorce his mother as she does not have a “good character”, a police officer said.
“On August 1, when they returned to Delhi, her son assaulted her and the next day also tried to assault her, after which she went to her elder daughter’s house,” the officer said.
“On August 11, the woman returned to her house. Her son then told the family members that he would like to have a word with his mother in private as it was a personal matter between him and her,” the officer added.
“He then allegedly took her inside a room and raped her at knifepoint,” the officer said based on her complaint.
“She was terrified and, out of shame, did not tell anyone,” the officer added. Three days later, he allegedly raped her again.

The police said the woman then narrated the incident to her daughter, who convinced her to file a police complaint, and she filed the complaint on Saturday.
