After a 28-year-old man from West Bengal was assaulted by a mob, leading to his death, the police arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with the attack.
On April 17, an unidentified man entered the house of 70-year-old Subramani, a retired private bus conductor, at Kollampalayam Housing Unit, and allegedly slit his throat. Subramani’s wife, Jeyalakshmi, raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to catch and assault the intruder. He was later handed over to the Erode South police, who admitted him to the Government Headquarters Hospital. However, the man, identified as S. Roby Oran, later died.
Police have registered a case of murder and arrested Subramani’s son, Manikanda Boopathi, for assaulting the man. An inquiry is ongoing, and more arrests are likely.
