Kozhikode Corporation passes annual project plan of ₹246.60 crore

The Kozhikode Corporation Council on Tuesday (April 8) approved its annual project plan for the year 2025–26, worth ₹246.60 crore.

The highest allocation of ₹47.22 crore is for sanitation, hygiene, and water conservation, while the housing sector gets ₹25.92 crore. An allocation of ₹11.43 crore has been made for women-centric projects, while ₹10.36 crore has been allocated to the manufacturing sector. Projects for children, differently abled persons, and transgenders get ₹5.71 crore, and an equal amount has been set aside for projects for the elderly.

Deputy Mayor C.P. Musafir Ahamed said that a few projects that were not included and spill-over projects from the previous year will be included later.

The Corporation also decided to sign a fresh contract with Nasit Infra Projects Ltd. for the networking works of the proposed sewage treatment plant (STP) at West Hill. The company, earlier known as Nasit Infrastructure, had been entrusted with the networking works when the Corporation was planning to construct STPs at Avikkal Thodu and Kothi. However, since the two projects have now been merged into a single one, a fresh Letter of Acceptance will be issued to the company. The Corporation will return the previously submitted security deposit and accept a fresh one. It will also settle the pending bills related to pipe supply. The networking work will begin once construction of the STP starts.

Meanwhile, there has been a change in GST since the project for the Kothi and Avikkal Thodu plants began three years ago. The company has demanded compensation for the GST hike from 12% to 18%, as well as for the escalation in project costs over the years. The council has decided to inform the State government about the GST issue and demand a waiver.

The West Hill STP is a 13 MLD plant for which ₹113.16 crore has been sanctioned. It is being constructed under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.
