A heated argument over property at a toddy shop took a tragic turn when a man was fatally assaulted by his elder brother. The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Yadukrishna, son of the late Sudhakaran Korattikkatil, Anandapuram. His elder brother, Vishnu (Kakka Vishnu), who allegedly attacked him, is currently absconding.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday at a toddy shop in Anandapuram. According to the police, an altercation broke out between the brothers while they were drinking. In a fit of rage, Kakka Vishnu is said to have struck Yadukrishna on the head with a wooden plank lying nearby.
Locals alerted the Puthukkad police, who rushed to the scene and shifted the severely injured Yadukrishna to Thrissur General Hospital and later to the Medical College Hospital for specialised care. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
Yadukrishna, who had been working abroad for several years, was currently in his home town and was reportedly making arrangements to return. He was unmarried. Neighbours revealed that fights and verbal altercations between the brothers were common.
After the attack, Kakka Vishnu went into hiding. The police have intensified their investigation.
