The Supreme Court has directed that the earlier orders to appoint a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or a one-member commission to probe the Karur stampede will remain suspended following the transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).The tragic incident, which occurred during a rally organised by actor and TVK founder Vijay, claimed 41 lives. Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had formed a one-member commission headed by retired Justice Aruna Jagadeesan and a SIT under senior officer Asra Garg to investigate the tragedy.
However, with the apex court now handing over the probe to the CBI, all parallel inquiries by the State have been put on hold until further notice.
