Kareena Kapoor Khan shares a core hair care memory: ‘She would always…’ | Lifestyle News

Kareena Kapoor Khan not only loves a simple home-cooked meal but follows the same formula for her hair, too. In fact, in a recent rapid-fire conversation with impact entrepreneur and wildlife conservationist Akash Mehta, she shared a memory associated with her childhood. “My favourite memory is with my nani (grandmother). She would always love oiling my hair. Granny would come, make the oil, warm it up nicely, and put it in my hair,” said Khan.

Let’s understand how oiling remains a relevant practice in many households.

Dr Shareefa Chause, a dermatologist at Dr Shareefa Skin Care Clinic in Mumbai, agreed that hair oiling remains an effective way to nourish the scalp and strengthen the strands.

“Natural oils like coconut, almond, and Argan contain vitamins and fatty acids that tend to hydrate the scalp, reduce breakage, and add shine. The key is to tailor it to your hair type and needs,” added Dr Chause.

If you have an oily scalp, go for lighter oils and apply only to the lengths.

Dr Chause mentioned that “for dry, frizzy hair, a deep overnight oil massage can work wonders. ”

How to get the best out of your hair oiling ritual?

Like our grandmothers, always warm the oil slightly for better absorption and massage gently to boost blood flow.

“Don’t overdo it—once or twice a week is enough. Make sure to wash it off thoroughly with a mild shampoo,” said Dr. Chause.

Avoid oiling dirty hair; never leave heavy oil on for days, as it may clog pores.

“Oiling can still be your go-to ritual for healthy, happy hair,” said Dr Chause.

According to Dr Chause, excessive hair oiling may also clog scalp pores in many people, inviting unpleasant problems such as dandruff, itchiness, or even hair loss. “It may also attract dirt and require frequent washing, which can strip natural oils and cause dryness. So, it is better not to go overboard at all,” said Dr Chause.
