Rishab Shetty’s period action epic Kantara: Chapter 1 may be on a decline at the domestic box office after two weeks of release. But it’s still hitting milestones, having crossed the coveted Rs 475 crore mark across all languages in India. On Wednesday (day 14), Kantara: Chapter 1 earned Rs 10 crore, its lowest single-day collection yet. This was quite a decline from its Tuesday (day 13) earnings of Rs 14.15 crore. Kantara: Chapter 1 also amassed Rs 39 crore the previous Saturday (day 10). However, prior to that, the film hovered around the Rs 20-25 crore mark, as per Sacnilk.

Throughout most of its opening week, Kantara: Chapter 1’s earnings ranged from Rs 30 crore to Rs 65 crore. The film made Rs 337 crore in its first week. However, its second week resulted in Rs 137 crore. The total box office collection of the film across all languages in India is now Rs 475.9 crore, slowly and surely inching towards the coveted Rs 500 crore mark. Globally, the film has now passed the Rs 650 crore mark. It’s just Rs 16 crore shy of passing Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2.

The majority chunk of the domestic box office collection of Kantara: Chapter 1 comes from the dubbed Hindi version, which currently stands at around Rs 160 crore. Thus, it will soon surpass the domestic box office collection of Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, which released earlier this year and earned Rs 167 crore.

The first part of the franchise, Kanatra, also starring and helmed by Shetty, wasn’t conceived as a pan-India film. However, upon its groundbreaking pan-India success as a Kannada film, it was dubbed in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil in a phased manner after two weeks of the initial release. Kantara: Chapter 1 is designed as a pan-India film, and is a prequel to the events of the 2022 blockbuster. Co-produced by Shetty and Hombale Films, Kantara: Chapter 1 also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, and Jayaram among others.
