Retired High Court Judge Aruna Jagadeesan has begun the investigation into the Karur stampede tragedy, where nearly 40 people lost their lives during a TVK rally.
The Tamil Nadu government had earlier appointed her to lead a one-member inquiry commission. She will look into the reasons behind the tragedy and the lapses that led to the loss of lives.
The stampede took place at Veluchamipuram in Karur during actor-politician Vijay’s public event. Women and children were among the victims.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has already held an urgent meeting with senior officials and directed them to give full support for the inquiry.
