A Los Angeles judge has ordered a mental health evaluation for a man accused of stalking actor Jennifer Aniston and crashing his vehicle into the front gate of her Bel Air home. The suspect, identified as Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, 48, from Mississippi, created buzz after appearing shirtless and wrapped in a blanket behind protective glass in a Los Angeles courtroom on Thursday.
According to the New York Post, Carwyle did not speak during the proceedings, nor did he enter a plea. Instead, his attorney, deputy public defender Toral Malik, entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Due to concerns about his mental state, the court has directed Carwyle to mental health court to assess his competency to stand trial for felony stalking and vandalism charges.

Judge Keith L Schwartz expressed doubts about Carwyle’s ability to comprehend court instructions when prosecutors requested a no-contact order between the defendant and the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. star. “You are not to have any contact with Jennifer Aniston under any conditions,” Judge Schwartz stated, issuing the protective order despite Carwyle’s attorney saying, “I don’t believe him staying away from Ms. Aniston will be an issue at this time.”
Prosecutors allege that Carwyle has harassed Aniston for over two years through voicemails, emails, and messages on social media. The situation escalated on May 5, when he allegedly drove his car through the front gate of her Bel Air residence while she was at home.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told PEOPLE, “There was a security guard on premises who was able to detain that suspect until officers arrived, at which time they took him into custody without incident. The resident was home at the time.”
Carwyle remains in jail, unable to post his $150,000 bail.
Photos from his unsettling court appearance — showing him smiling while shirtless — have circulated on social media, causing widespread concern among Aniston’s fans.
