IUML ‘endorses’ CMP leader C.P. John’s candidature for Assembly polls

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has “endorsed” Communist Marxist Party (CMP) leader C.P. John’s candidature from a winnable seat in the Assembly elections to be held in the State in 2026.

Both IUML State president Panakkad Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal and national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty hailed Mr. John’s expertise in economics and public policy at an event here on Thursday while he was honoured with an award in memory of B.V. Abdullakoya, veteran IUML leader and former Rajya Sabha member.

While Mr. Kunhalikutty admitted that the United Democratic Front, of which the CMP is a constituent, was yet to give him a key post that he rightly deserved, Mr. Thangal said that his party would offer “all the support” to him to get elected as an MLA.

“Mr. John is known for his stern ideological positions. Even though many of his associates deserted his party for greener pastures, he stood firm on his beliefs,” Mr. Kunhalikutty said. This fulsome praise from the IUML top brass comes against the backdrop of Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan’s recent promise to field more CMP candidates in the next Assembly polls.
