Tehran, June 26: Iran has confirmed that its nuclear sites were badly damaged in airstrikes by the United States. The strikes happened over the weekend. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the damage was serious.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Baghaei did not give full details. But he said that the strikes by US B-2 bombers using powerful bunker buster bombs had caused big damage. “Our nuclear installations have been badly damaged, that’s for sure,” he said.
At the same time, a ceasefire between Israel and Iran seems to be holding. It began on Tuesday after 12 days of fighting. At first, both sides blamed each other for breaking the ceasefire. But later, the rockets and attacks stopped.
The truce is giving hope to many that peace talks may start. However, Iran has clearly said it will not stop its nuclear program.
