‘I did it so they wouldn’t be sad’: Delhi man kills family, fails in two suicide attempts, lands in custody instead | Delhi News

Hours after allegedly killing his parents and elder brother in their South Delhi home, 22-year-old Siddharth tried twice to kill himself — and failed both times. He later told police he did it because he “did not want to leave them crying” over his repeated suicide attempts.

On Wednesday evening, he was caught at Chattarpur Metro station while writing a suicide note. “Security personnel counselled him and let him go,” said a senior officer. The very next afternoon, at AIIMS Metro station, Siddharth jumped in front of a train. The driver hit the emergency brakes just in time, and Siddharth was pulled out alive — and arrested.

Police had already discovered the bodies of Prem Singh (50), his wife Rajani (45) and elder son Ritik (24) at their home in Satbari Kharak village. “He first killed his mother by hitting her with a stone, then strangulated and stabbed her. In the same way, he killed his father and brother before leaving the house,” said DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan.

During questioning, Siddharth admitted he had been trying to end his life for months. “He claimed that he attempted suicide at least six times in the last three months. His family members were upset with his suicidal tendency and they used to cry. He said he never wanted to leave them sad — and that’s why he decided to kill them before committing suicide,” a senior police officer said.

In Rajasthan, he had jumped into the Luni river but survived because “there was not enough water”. Another time, he slit his wrists but was saved by locals. He even tried to hang himself from a tree but was pulled down by passersby.

This time too, he survived — not by chance, but by intervention. And instead of death, Siddharth now faces arrest and trial for the murders of his family.
