The police identified the accused as Ravindra, 29, and the victim as Sangeeta, 24. Sangeeta is the wife of Ravindra’s wife’s brother. The incident took place in a flat at the HCBS Sports Ville Society in Sohna and stemmed from a dispute over Sangeeta’s interactions with other individuals, the police claimed.
According to a Haryana Police spokesperson, on July 24, the Sohna City police station received information about a woman found dead inside a bedroom in a flat at HCBS Sports Ville Society. A police team rushed to the scene and discovered a woman’s body on a bed, with blood oozing from her nose and ears and a gamchha (traditional cloth scarf) around her neck.
The police identified the deceased as Sangeeta, a native of Dhani Balot village in Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan. The crime scene was inspected by forensic teams, including fingerprint experts and the Forensic Science Laboratory unit. Two mobile phones, a cover, and a phone charger were recovered from the scene. The body was sent for a post-mortem and later handed over to Sangeeta’s family.
During the post-mortem at the Gurgaon mortuary, Sangeeta’s brother provided a written complaint to the police. He stated that Sangeeta had been married to an Armyman named Manoj, who died in a road accident more than two years ago. They have a three-year-old child.
Following Manoj’s death, Ravindra, a resident of Dhani Baya Wali village in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district, allegedly lured Sangeeta with false promises of securing a job in place of her late husband. Ravindra then allegedly began living with Sangeeta in a live-in relationship.
When her family objected, Ravindra allegedly threatened to implicate them in false cases. Sangeeta’s brother further alleged that she had recently started associating with other individuals, which led to tensions with Ravindra.

About six days before the incident, Sangeeta had allegedly gone out with some of these individuals. On July 24, at around noon, she made a WhatsApp call to her cousin, requesting a new phone, as she claimed Ravindra was allegedly recording her conversations.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Sohna City police station under the relevant sections. Sub-Inspector Vinay, in charge of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Sohna, led a team that caught Ravindra on Friday on Palwal Road in Sohna.
During initial questioning, Ravindra allegedly confessed to the crime.
Ravindra joined the Haryana Police as a constable in 2017 and was recently posted with the Emergency Response Vehicle unit in Palwal.
“He revealed that he grew resentful of Sangeeta’s interactions with others. When she returned after meeting others that day, an argument ensued, during which Ravindra allegedly strangled her with a gamchha,” the spokesperson said.
