Govinda says he did a film for a dozen bananas and a coconut; Chunky Panday recalls his connection to Raj Kapoor who made Shah Rukh Khan’s debut | Bollywood News

Actors Kajol and Twinkle Khanna’s new talk show, Two Much, has already given fans of Bollywood some very interesting and engaging stories. Since the start of the season, the team has interviewed Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. Their latest guests are veteran comedy stars Chunky Panday and Govinda, who both brought something to the table and turned the interview into a stroll down memory lane.

The very first anecdote was given by Chunky, who revealed that he had some sort of a connection to Shah Rukh Khan’s debut. Mind you, he wasn’t talking about his film debut in the Raj Kanwar directorial Deewana. Chunky was actually remembering the king’s first ever appearance on screen, which was in the TV show Fauji.

He recalled his family’s connection to performing arts and said, “Humare poore parivar mei koi actor bana nahi kabhi. (No one in our entire family ever became an actor.) Haan, mere uncle, mere mamaji jo they, he used to do character roles. (Yes, my uncle, my maternal uncle, used to do character roles.) Unka naam tha, Col. Raj Kapoor. (His name was Col. Raj Kapoor.) Unhone Fauji serial banayi Shah Rukh ke saath. (He made the Fauji serial with Shah Rukh.)”

Chunky further added that his parents were actually both doctors, yet they had a professional relationship with the film industry. He said, “I am a son of two doctors. Mera Pitaji was a heart surgeon; meri mummy was a doctor, and woh poori film industry ko jaanti thi. (My father was a heart surgeon, my mother a doctor, and she knew everyone in the film industry.)” He revealed that his mom wasn’t just any doctor; she was the go-to medical expert for Bollywood stars back in the day.

Then the spotlight hit Govinda, who talked about dance being such a big part of his identity as an actor. He admitted that even though Saroj Khan was responsible for training him, someone else gave him the chance to create his own style. “Toh Kamal Master (So Kamal Master) gave me my own style. He showed me ki bina baat kiye aap dance kijiye. (how to dance and express without speaking) Toh jo vo keh dete they, jo shabd hai, lyrics ke, uske hisaab se gaane pe dance hota tha. (So whatever he would say, based on the lyrics, that’s how the dance on the song happened.) That started with Kamal Masterji.”

Govinda further revealed that it was his dance that gave him the opportunity to perform with iconic singer Samantha Fox. The actor revealed that Subir Mukherjee’s mother had once helped his mother out of a bind. Many years later he got the chance to repay that debt by working in Subir’s movie, without charging any money. He actually just asked for a dozen bananas and a coconut as his fees. Now interestingly, one of the songs in the movie featured Samantha, who left Govinda absolutely flabbergasted.
