Eyesore: Garbage dumped by motorists on both sides of the Karanai Main Road near a forest area lies uncleared for years.
The Karanai Main Road that links the residential colonies of Medavakkam, Sithalapakkam, and Thalambur passes through a forest area. It carries a heavy traffic of vehicles bound for Vandalur and Kelambakkam. The road near the forest area is an eyesore, with garbage dumped by motorists on both sides. A channel to evacuate rainwater passes along the forest area, and it has also been filled with plastic and other wastes. The garbage has been left uncleared for years. Representations made to officials of the Karanai panchayat, a few metres away from the forest area, have failed to evoke any response.
M. Sadiq, Kelambakkam
Official responds:
A revenue official of the Chengalpattu Collectorate says the area where garbage is being dumped belongs to the Forest Department. Karanai panchayat officials have been asked to remove the garbage immediately and install a few bins on either side of the Karanai Main Road.
No display board
The Velachery-Tambaram Main Road is an important link road for thousands of residents. The Saraswathi Nagar bus stop on this road is well marked by a bus stop sign, but the next bus stop before the Aadhi Nagar stop has no display board. A large number of passengers not familiar with the locality walk a long distance to the Saraswathi Nagar bus stop to board MTC buses.
