The visitors Punjab Kings (PBKS) posted a commanding target of 201 for the loss of four wickets against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Match 44 of IPL 2025. Earlier in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, KKR had a crushing defeat against Shreyas Iyer-led team where they were restricted to not attain the target of just 112 runs.

PBKS skipper Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first with two young openers, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opening the innings. The youngsters smashed the KKR bowlers all over the Eden Gardens and scored 120 runs for the first wicket partnership. The left-handed batter scored 69 off just 35 balls and his partner smashed 83 off 49 which included six fours and six sixes, having played the anchor initially in his exceptional knock.

But, the KKR bowlers restricted the PBKS hitters in the latter part of the innings and tried to restrict them to a decent total. For KKR, Vaibhav Arora picked up two wickets in his four-over spell. KKR batters will need immense firepower to chase the target and get back into the contest.

Meanwhile, after the innings, Priyansh Arya spill the beans on how he went on to build his partnership with Prabhsimran for the first wicket, which set the tone for the visiting side right from the word ‘go’. The Delhi-born lauded his understanding with the opening partner as well as Ricky Ponting, who has been speaking very highly of him since the beginning of the season.

“We have a very good total, because the wicket is on the slower side. [Partnership] Ricky Sir told us to rotate the strike after six overs and take it deep. I really like batting with Prabhsimran. He asks me which bowler to charge, the shots I can play. [On Ponting] He gives me the confidence that I have the ability. He only talks positive,” Priyansh said on air.
