The France-based telecommunication giant Orange recently disclosed suffering a serious cyberattack on its IT infrastructure. While more details are yet to arrive, for now, the telecom warns users of some service disruptions as they continue with the investigations and remediation.
Orange Telecom Faced A Cyberattack
In a recent press release, Orange Group shared details about a cyberattack that hit its infrastructure recently.
As revealed, the firm detected the cyberattack on July 25, 2025, targeting what they mention as “one of the information systems”. Upon detecting the attack, the Orange Cyberdefense and Orange Group teams worked together to isolate the affected systems and prevent the spread of the attack.
In the press release, the firm did not reveal the exact nature of the attack, that is, a malware attack, a ransomware attack, or espionage. However, from the remedial measures they took and the subsequent impact on the service’s functioning, it seems the attack was a rather serious one, with a potentially devastating impact.
As stated, the isolation measures Orange implemented triggered service disruption for some Business consumers and Customer services across the country.
These isolation measures caused disruption to certain management services and platforms for some of our Business customers, as well as a few Consumer services, primarily located in France.
For now, the firm continues investigating the matter, also focusing on an optimal customer experience by ensuring prompt updates. Apart from the internal enquiries, the firm’s representatives are also busy informing the affected customers about the matter.
‘No Data Breach Detected’ – Says Orange
While the exact details about the attack are yet unclear, Orange Group confirmed that this cybersecurity incident did not result in any data exfiltration activity.
At this stage of the investigation, there is no evidence to suggest that any internal or customer data has been exfiltrated.
Alongside technical details of the attack, the company has also not shared the details about the remedial measures it took following the attack, except mentioning system isolation. It’s also unclear if the firm has engaged any law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter. Perhaps, more details may arrive in the coming days as the telecom giant wraps up the investigation.
Orange S.A. is a leading telecommunications service in France, with a global customer base. According to its website, the company operates in 26 countries across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, serving 291 million customers.
The telecom sector has long been a lucrative target for most threat actors, having faced different sorts of cyberattacks. For example, in 2021, the telecom services from Spain and Ecuador suffered ransomware attacks. The same year, T-Mobile also suffered a data breach, followed by data breaches impacting USCellular and Croatian firm A1 Hrvatska.
