Flavorful Steak Taco Seasoning – Fit Foodie Finds

Flavorful Steak Taco Seasoning – Fit Foodie Finds

Taco seasoning is something that I’m always reaching for to flavor beef, other meats, and even veggies. I came up with this homemade steak taco seasoning because I love the flavor without the additives often found in store-bought seasoning blends. Have you ever looked at the back of a store-bought taco seasoning packet and seen “other flavors?” You won’t see that in this recipe. Only whole spices and salt!

This super flavorful steak taco seasoning comes together in just 7 ingredients you likely have on hand in your spice cupboard already. Keep a batch of this steak taco seasoning on hand for making my famous flank steak tacos!

Why This Blend Works

Making steak tacos for dinner, but don’t know where to start with seasoning your beef? I got you with this seasoning blend! This incredible steak taco seasoning is the perfect amount of savory and sweet and is made with just 7 total spices.

I highly recommend tripling this recipe and storing the leftovers in a Mason jar for later. You’ll thank yourself, trust me 😉

I’ve used this seasoning on many cuts of beef including flank steak and strip steak. And, it pairs nicely with ground beef, too, for my ground beef tacos.

Easy Customizations & Flavor Twists

This steak taco seasoning is generally mild as is, but you can easily make it spicier, smokier or even sweeter. You can also easily lower the sodium without impacting the taste too much.

Make it spicier: If you prefer a spicier steak taco spice mix, add more smoked paprika or red pepper flakes. If you like it hot-hot, add a bit of cayenne pepper to the mix.

Make it smokier: Add more smoked paprika.

Make it sweeter: Add more brown sugar.

Reduce the sodium: Lower the salt used.

How to Use This Seasoning

A good rule of thumb for my steak taco seasoning is that you need about 4 tablespoons of seasoning per 1 lb. of meat.

When using this steak taco seasoning, be sure to massage it really well into the meat, and then let it rest “caked on” your steak before cooking. This will result in super flavorful and tender steak for your tacos.

Best Cuts for Steak Tacos

Technically this steak taco seasoning can be used with ANY cut of beef, but I personally recommend either flank steak, skirt steak or sirloin.

Flank steak can get a bad rap because it is a more affordable cut of meat (plus, it is quite lean). I love flank steak because when you season and cook it correctly, it’s deliciously flavorful and tender — which makes it a perfect cut of meat for my thinly sliced steak tacos.

Simply make a whole batch (or a double or triple batch if you want to save extra!) using the ingredient amounts below, and then store in an airtight container in your spice cupboard for up to 3 months. I like to label my spice jars with both the name of the spice blend as well as the date, so you know how long it has been in there.
