Police said the incident took place in the Naveen Shahdara area of Northeast Delhi.
The victim, Akhil Panwar, is the son of a police officer currently posted in Delhi’s Northeast district, police sources said. Panwar is also a habitual offender in the Shahdara area, sources added.
Police said the shooting occurred around 1.07 am near the police residential quarters in Shahdara following a verbal altercation with two men. Akhil sustained four bullet injuries but is reported to be out of danger after emergency treatment.
According to police, a PCR call was received at 1.43 am from one Ridham Surma, who reported that two brothers called Akhil to Tikona Park in Naveen Shahdara, and then opened fire at him. Ridham rushed the injured man to Max Hospital for treatment. The accused are currently absconding despite an active search, said police.
Initial inquiries suggest the confrontation stemmed from abusive language Akhil allegedly used against the brothers, which escalated into the shooting.
Police have registered a case under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. Multiple police teams are working to locate and arrest the accused, and nearby CCTV footage is being scanned for clues, said police.
