A level 1 fire broke out inside at a shop at the Apollo Industrial Estate in Andheri East early on Thursday. No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was put out nearly three hours later at 8.50 am.
The incident was reported at 5.56 am inside Gala no. 44 at the Apollo Industrial Estate near the Holy Family School in Andheri East.
According to information furnished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire remained confined to the first floor, ground floor and loft area of the ground-plus-one-storey gala inside the estate. Officials said that the blaze charred the electric wiring, electrical installation, furniture, material like surgical equipment, wheelchairs in the shop as well as office stock like xerox machines, computers and printers, among other items.
In a bid to extinguish the fire, the Mumbai Fire Brigade pressed its personnel while BMC staffers and police officials overlooked the operations.
The fire was controlled and doused by 8.50 am, with no injuries reported in the incident. The cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
This is the eighth case of fire reported in the city in the past two weeks, in what has raised concerns over fire safety. MFB officials have attributed the sudden surge of outbreaks to the heatwave, which has led to increased power usage and load on air conditioners.
