Files stacked, vehicles parked in order: Facelift for Panckula police station day after new DGP’s rap | Chandigarh News

A day after a surprise visit by newly appointed Director General of Police O P Singh, Sector 7 police station in Panchkula got a quick makeover. Files were neatly stacked, drawers quickly cleaned and the station painted. The open ground where seized and abandoned vehicles were stationed was also quickly cleaned up.

Damp walls, unkempt surroundings had invited Singh’s displeasure on Tuesday night when he paid a surprise visit hours after taking charge as the DGP. He had even asked the police personnel to submit by 11 am on Wednesday a 400-word note on what they would record in the GO register if they were in his place making a surprise visit to a police station.

After the clean-up on Wednesday, the police personnel also shared the pictures of before and after conditions of the station.

Earlier in the evening on Tuesday, soon after assuming charge, Singh had addressed police officers and personnel across Haryana over wireless, urging them to uphold discipline and integrity.

“Our courage is greater than our challenges,” he had said, describing the police department as his family and Haryana as his karmabhoomi and his children’s birthplace.

Despite a hectic day, the DGP even took time to sit down with the engineering team and the SHO of Sector 7 police station to review infrastructure needs.

After thoroughly studying his 400-word note on the premise’s condition, he directed his engineering team to implement five low-cost interventions aimed at improving the police station’s functionality and comfort.

He directed plugging leakage and seepage to prevent water damage and strengthen structural integrity by sealing cracks and leaks, an essential yet inexpensive maintenance step.

Singh also suggested during the meet to enhance lighting with energy-efficient LED fixtures, which improve security and visibility at a relatively low cost. Clear and visible signage for better orientation of visitors and staff, an easy and affordable improvement was also suggested.

The DGP directed to have a furnished waiting and interaction room for visitors using simple furniture and décor upgrades, enhancing the public experience without heavy expenses.

He also informed the SHO that he plans to revisit the police station in the next fortnight to assess the progress of this pilot project. The goal is to replicate these improvements across all police stations in the state, reinforcing the commitment to modernise infrastructure cost-effectively and uniformly, Singh said.
