New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Friday said that he will continue with his re-election campaign. Adams is running as an independent and faces Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and former Governor Andrew Cuomo in November’s election.
Not dropping out: Adams
“Serving New Yorkers as their mayor is the only job I’ve ever wanted. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made lowering crime, improving schools, building housing, and cutting costs for working families — and I remain the best person to lead this city forward,” Adams said.
“While I will always listen if called to serve our country, no formal offers have been made. I am still running for re-election, and my full focus is on the safety and quality of life of every New Yorker.”
Adams to get Saudi Ambassador post?
Earlier, there were reports that Adams, who is facing allegations, including corruption and accepting bribes, may suspend his campaign for re-election.
There were also reports that the Trump administration has been considering offering New York City Mayor Eric Adams the role of ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
According to a New York Times report, the move is aimed at convincing Adams to drop out of the mayoral race and help Cuomo, a Democrat running as an independent, defeat the Democratic candidate, Mamdani.
Adams met Steve Witkoff
The Associated Press reported that on a recent trip to Miami, Adams met with Steve Witkoff, a former real estate developer in New York who is now one of Trump’s main diplomatic envoys in Washington. Adams acknowledged meeting with “several political figures” on his Florida trip, which he said was to “deal with some personal issues.”

Mamdani will win unless one drops out: Trump
On Thursday, Trump said he thinks Mamdani is likely to become New York City’s next mayor unless two of the three major candidates running against him drop out of the race.

“I don’t think you can win unless you have one-on-one, and somehow he’s gotten a little bit of a lead,” Trump said of Mamdani. “I would like to see two people drop out and have it be one-on-one, and I think that’s a race that could be won.”
Mamdani, a 33-year-old Democratic Socialist, has been the presumptive favourite in the election since soundly beating Cuomo in the Democratic primary in June. Republican Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels crime patrol group, is the other candidate in the mayoral election in New York, which has mostly elected Democrats to the post.
