Maharashtra’s Opposition parties on Wednesday unanimously demanded that the elections of civic bodies should not be held until the Election Commission (EC) rectifies “errors” in the voters’ list, as it was using the same one used in the Assembly elections.
Opposition leaders including former chief minister and Shiv Sena(UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray, NCP(SP) leader Jayant Patil, Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat, MNS founder Raj Thackeray, SP legislator Rais Shaikh and others on Wednesday met the state Chief Electoral Officer S Chockalingam and State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare. This was the second meeting of the Opposition leaders in two days with the state’s top poll officials.
Uddhav said: “The poll body should accept the truth that there are errors in the voters’ list and cancel the elections until those errors are rectified. If you don’t use VVPAT, it means you will destroy all the evidence.”
