Dolcetto – The Fashiongton Post

Dolcetto – The Fashiongton Post

Dolcetto is a red grape variety native to the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. Despite its name meaning “little sweet one,” Dolcetto wines are typically dry. It ripens early, making it ideal for cooler vineyard sites, and is widely grown in areas such as Dogliani, Diano d’Alba, and Ovada. Known for its easy-drinking style and fruity character, Dolcetto is often enjoyed young.

Flavor

Dolcetto wines are soft and round with flavors of black cherry, plum, and licorice, sometimes accompanied by hints of almonds and violets. They are low in acidity but can have noticeable tannins, resulting in a pleasant, slightly bitter finish.
