Women lawmakers came in for high praise from Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Monday when he said male members like himself in Parliament and Assemblies can learn from their female colleagues when it comes to keeping calm during discussions on key issues. At the concluding session of the first two-day national conference on committees on empowerment of women of Parliament and state legislatures at Tirupati, Harivansh praised the manner in which the women smoothly conducted the proceedings [at the conference] the previous day. “If we [men] imbibe these virtues, the job of a Presiding Officer…would be a lot easier and the House would function more productively…,” he said.
In Limbo
Some Congress leaders from poll-bound Bihar are getting jittery due to the uncertainty over the party’s screening committee meeting. The panel was supposed to meet last week but couldn’t because it had been decided that the screening committee would meet after the formation of the Pradesh Election Committee, which is not in place yet. Now, leaders’ plans to travel back to Bihar are in limbo as they don’t know whether the screening committee is meeting this week or not.
