CRPF partners with Rotary to plant 10,000 Sandalwood saplings in Bengaluru

In a unique green initiative, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rotary Bangalore Midtown (RBM) to plant sandalwood saplings in its expansive 250-acre Bengaluru campus. The plantation is part of a broader effort to create lung space for the rapidly growing city. The aim is to start with 3,000 saplings and scale up to 10,000 based on land and water availability.

According to the MoU, any revenue generated from the commercial sale of these trees after 15 years will be directed towards the welfare of families of CRPF martyrs.

CRPF’s Regional Welfare Association and RBM President Palani Loganathan welcomed the partnership, describing the campus as ‘nature’s own bank’, where the long-term value of the trees could grow up to 400 times over the years.

RBM plans to rope in CSR partners to support the initiative, not only in planting trees but in implementing rainwater harvesting to boost groundwater levels.

RBM hopes that the project becomes a model for other secure campuses under the forces, including the military, BSF, and Air Force, to replicate across India, fostering both environmental and economic benefits, said Mr. Loganathan.
