Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said that the enrollment of girl students in colleges in Tripura had increased since his government announced a fee waiver for them.

“After assuming charge as chief minister, I, on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima, announced a fee waiver for girl students in colleges. After that, the gross enrollment of female students has increased significantly,” he said during a ceremony held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala to celebrate secondary and higher secondary examination results.

It was in 2022 that the state government announced the fee waiver for girl students of colleges.

Saha emphasised technology-based education and urged teachers to equip themselves with digital tools like artificial intelligence.

“We are bringing quality teachers to schools. As we got 100 per cent success here (Class 10 and 12 board examinations), we expect 100 per cent results from the teachers in future. There is also a learning process for teachers. We are hiring quality teachers through TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) conducted by the TRBT (Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura). We have been saying that students need to get quality education. AI is here. You need to study about AI. We have to adopt technology- based systems like others and educate our students,” he said.

Saha also stressed the need to end students’ dependence on private tuition.

Saha further stated that the CBSE results in Tripura were 2 per cent higher than those in Guwahati.

Saha highlighted different initiatives adopted by the state for development in the education sector, and stated that they have launched Tripura School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework for evaluation of quality of education in schools.
