Chopines – The Fashiongton Post

Chopines are a type of elevated shoe that originated in the 15th century, primarily worn in Spain and Italy. These platform shoes were designed to increase the wearer’s height and protect their garments from mud and dirt. Chopines were often made of wood or cork and could reach significant heights, sometimes exceeding 12 inches. They fell out of fashion by the 17th century but have seen occasional revivals in modern fashion. Today, they are mostly seen in historical reenactments or as vintage-inspired fashion pieces.
