The Chennai and Mumbai High Courts received bomb threats on Thursday (September 19), prompting heavy police security and emergency checks. Authorities confirmed that the threats were sent via email, and investigations are underway to trace the sender.
Following the alert, bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs conducted intensive searches inside the Chennai High Court premises. A similar threat was also received for the Customs Department headquarters near Chennai Beach railway station, leading to precautionary inspections in and around the area.
This is the second time in recent weeks that the Chennai High Court has received a bomb threat. In the earlier incident, the entire complex was evacuated before authorities confirmed it to be a hoax. Police suspect the latest threat may also be a false alarm but are treating it with utmost seriousness.
Officials said cybercrime teams are working to trace the origin of the threatening email. Security has been tightened at key government buildings and courts in Chennai and Mumbai as investigations continue.
