ASP arrested in UP over wife’s death, family alleges harassment | Lucknow News


An FIR has been registered against a 2006-batch PPS officer in connection to the death of his wife whose body was found hanging at his official residence in Lucknow’s Mahanagar area on Wednesday, police said.

Mukesh Pratap Singh, is currently posted as Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) with the UP Police Crime Branch CID, said officials.

The police said that along with Singh, four of his family members, including his mother and sister, have also been named in the FIR. However, no arrests have been made in the case so far.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lucknow, Ashish Srivastava said that an FIR has been registered in the case, stating that murder and other relevant charges have been invoked against the accused.

He further added that the post-mortem report confirmed the cause of death as hanging, and no suicide note was recovered from the spot.

According to the police, the case was filed by the deceased, Nitesh Singh’s brother, Pramod Singh, at the Mahanagar police station. Nitesh Singh’s body was found at the official residence on July 30. Mukesh Pratap was then present at his office when the incident occurred.

The police said the entire house is equipped with CCTV cameras and they have obtained video footage related to the incident.

Nitesh Singh’s family alleged that she was regularly harassed both physically and mentally by her husband, Mukesh and claimed that the harassment went on for a long time and was mainly due to Mukesh having an extra-marital affair with another woman, police said.

According to the police, the family claimed that whenever the woman tried to question or protest this alleged affair, Mukesh would treat her badly. Etawah native Mukesh and the woman, Nitesh, got married in 2012. They have three children together.
