With 30 major events lined up in the coming three months, featuring music icons such as Akon, AP Dhillon, and Travis Scott, the Delhi government has collaborated with popular online ticketing platform BookMyShow. A day after CM Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government is eyeing the “creative capital” tag for the city, the Tourism department on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the online platform.
Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said that the government will use the platform to promote all the upcoming events. “This initiative will be expanded phase-wise. More such platforms will be added by the government to promote upcoming live and cultural events and music concerts in the city. Apart from this, the Delhi government will also use this platform to promote its own events hosted by Tourism and Art and Culture departments,” said Mishra, adding that the move aims to widen public outreach.
“This partnership marks a historic step towards establishing Delhi as a premier global hub for live entertainment and concerts. Transformation cannot be achieved by the government alone and requires active collaboration with the industry. The signing of this MoU is a crucial step in that direction,” he added.
Mishra said that the Tourism department will promote the events along with providing a conducive environment for hosting the world’s largest events like reducing rental charges of stadium bookings, simplifying the process of permission and approval.
“We have already reduced the rental charges of venues with the help of Centre and Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya…Similarly, steps will be taken through policy reforms, environmental clearances, single window clearance, and the removal of VIP culture,” said Mishra.
The government aims to raise Rs 3,000 crore in revenue in the next few years through live entertainment and concert economy.
Explaining how the targets will be achieved, Mishra said, “I will give the example of the Coldplay concert that took place in Ahmedabad earlier this year. It collected Rs 72 crore through GST on just booking tickets and Rs 690 crore in three days…So, apart of revenue on booking tickets, the city’s economy also gets a boost through various other modes like people from other cities travel to Delhi, they will stay in hotels, explore tourist places, markets, food and various other things…So, apart from the venue and tickets, all this adds 7 to 8 times more impact to the city’s economy.”

“Delhi is not only the political capital but also the heart of India’s culture, civilization, and history. The city embodies diverse global cultures, and the aim is to strengthen, amplify, and celebrate this cultural mosaic,” he said.
Mishra also called upon the event industry, artists, designers, and planners to be part of this transformation. He said that Delhi will lead the journey as the country aims to become a developed nation by 2047.
“The city is rapidly evolving, and new venues, modern infrastructure, and a beautiful riverfront will redefine its identity over the next two to three years. The Delhi government will ensure full support for the industry,” he said..
