Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Tuesday announced 3 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for all employees and pensioners of the state government at the end of the eighth session of the 13th Assembly.
Saha said the new DA and DR hike would come into effect from October 1 onwards. Approximately 1.05 lakh employees, and more than 84,000 pensioners will directly benefit from the decision.
In March this year, the Tripura Government announced a 3 per cent hike in DA and DR, narrowing the gap with the Centre’s employees and pensioners to 22 per cent. The 2 per cent DA hike announced by the Centre in January this year, shortly before the state government’s announcement, raised the allowance to 55 per cent for its employees.
With Tuesday’s announcement, Tripura Government employees would still have a 19 per cent DA gap with those of the Centre.
Speaking at the Assembly at the end of the Autumn Session that lasted for two days till today, Saha said, “Our government is pro-government. We had formed the pay and pension review panel after coming to power in 2018, and our government introduced the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) from October 1, 2018”.
“In six instalments till now, we have issued 33 per cent DA and DR to state government employees and pensioners. We are announcing 3 per cent additional Dearness Allowance for state government employees and similar Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners,” he added.
Saha also said the decision to hike DA and DR would cost the state exchequer an additional Rs. 25 crore.

The CM also urged everyone to spend the Durga Puja, Diwali, and the rest of the festive season happily and peacefully.
While welcoming the Tripura Government’s announcement, a section of employees and pensioners said the Centre is expected to announce its decision on DA and DR around Diwali, with effect from July, as it does every year. They pointed out that it would bring their DA and DR difference with the Central government employees back to square one.
