A 22-year-old constable posted with the Border Security Force (BSF) was arrested for allegedly robbing a jewellery shop in the Farsh Bazar area of Delhi’s Shahdara, the police said Wednesday.
According to the police, Gaurav Yadav, a native of Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh, developed an addiction to online gambling and gaming apps, and lost a significant amount of money. The police claimed he decided to commit the crime after his monetary loss.
Prashant Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shahdara, said the robbery at gunpoint was reported at Gurcharan Jewellers in Farsh Bazar on June 19. The accused had stolen four gold bracelets from the shop.
“After the case was registered, a combined team from the local police station, the technical surveillance unit, and the special staff of Shahdara district immediately sprang into action and made relentless efforts to solve the case and apprehend the accused,” Gautam said.
The police said they analysed CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas to chart out the escape route of the lone robber. They said they raised queries on National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) based on CCTV footage and technical data analysis of multiple spots, and found that the accused was employed with the BSF.
After that, the police conducted a raid at his residence in Shivpuri, and nabbed him. The police stated that the BSF constable initially denied any involvement, but later admitted to his role in the case, and they recovered the two stolen gold bracelets at his request.
“On sustained interrogation, Yadav revealed that he is a constable in BSF and posted at Fazilka, Punjab. He enrolled in BSF during 2023 and completed his training in May 2025,” another officer said.

The officer said he left for his home after he was granted leave from June 18. They said Yadav had to change trains from Delhi and decided to rob the shop. He allegedly bought a toy gun from a shop, robbed the jewellery shop, and fled. He took a train to Meerut, then Lucknow, and reached his home in Shivpuri. He sold two bracelets and received Rs 2 lakh, which he deposited in a bank, the officer added.
